High protein foods and snacks, like high protein yogurt, are everywhere you look these days so it can be important to take a step back, consider what’s important to you about them and which products are right for you.
Why eat high protein foods?
First of all, a quick recap on why high protein foods are so popular. After all, it’s easy to get swept away by the hype, particularly when terms like ‘superfood’ are bandied around so easily. Protein’s not a fad though, it’s one of the essential nutrients that your body needs. It’s particularly important for your muscles, as they require protein for repair, maintenance and growth.
That’s why protein is an essential consideration if you’re taking part in any kind of exercise. Even if you’re just taking part in cardio-based exercises like jogging, you’ll want your muscles to be able to repair and maintain themselves after your runs. Alternatively, if you’re trying weight training and looking to build your muscles, protein is also crucial.
These aren’t the only reasons why high protein foods are often the choice of people on a fitness programme. Foods higher in protein also seem to keep us feeling fuller for longer than foods that are high in carbohydrates. This could help us to avoid consuming more calories than we need to or would like to.
What are your options for high protein snacks?
Protein is found in a range of foods, like meat, fish, pulses and – of course – dairy products. The problem is that taking a steak with you to the gym to munch on isn’t the most convenient of options! More high protein snacks are being produced for people on the go though, including dairy-based ones.
What’s good about high protein yogurt?
One thing that can be daunting about making a change to your diet is just that – change. That’s why it can be easier to simply replace a product you’re already used to enjoying with an equivalent that suits your new requirements better. Many of us are already yogurt fans and used to enjoying a pot as a snack, so switching to a higher protein equivalent is no hardship.
Is there a better option than high protein yogurt?
Yogurt is a delicious and pretty healthy snack, but there’s never any harm in having a look to see if there’s something better out there. Quark is a product that has become more popular in the UK in the last couple of years. If you want to know more about it, then please read our blog explaining what quark is. Quark actually has only around half the calories of Greek yogurt, as well as containing less than 1% fat, compared to Greek yogurt, which is around 10% fat. Best of all though, quark contains around twice the protein of Greek yogurt.
So how about if somebody made pots of quark that were the shape and size of the high protein yogurts that you’re used to taking with you to the gym? How convenient would that be when it comes to getting the most out of your high protein snacking? Well, the good news is… that’s exactly what Graham’s have done.
We’ve launched our Protein 22 range, which comes in a range of delicious fruit flavours, each packing a powerful 22g of protein per pot. Convenience, taste AND higher in protein than Greek yogurt? That’s right. With Protein 22, you really can have it all.
