Graham’s The Family Dairy Mains of Boquhan Open Days

We were delighted this past weekend to have the incredible opportunity to host several open days at our new Mains of Boquhan dairy farm where we house our 300 Jersey Girls.

To commence the weekend, we were pleased to host the 141st Jersey Cattle Society Annual General Meeting on Thursday 8th August. After a cup of tea or coffee on arrival, the Jersey Cattle Society AGM began. Following the meeting, Dr Graham welcomed our guests to the farm by sharing the story of Graham’s The Family Dairy. After Dr Graham’s speech, guests were invited to help themselves to an a la carte barbeque provided by local butcher Michael More, followed by a walk through the Graham’s herd and a chance to participate in a stock judging competition. We were honoured to host the 141st Jersey Cattle Society AGM at our Mains of Boquhan dairy.

On Friday 9th August, we were then proud to invite our producers to the farm, welcoming them again with an a la carte barbeque lunch and a tour around our new shed. We are very grateful to all our supply partners who we work with to produce our award winning products and to all the farmers and families who attended. Our annual Milk Quality Awards followed their arrival and we are happy to announce the winners as follows;

Somatic Cell Count Winners:

1st place winner with a 12-month average of 51.72 and an annual volume of 3.8ml goes to Gavin Hamilton; Hotts

With an annual volume of 2.4ml, 3rd place for SCC and a score of 80.75 goes to Tom Smith; Bottoms

3rd place, with annual volume of 775k litres and a 12 month bactoscan average of 9.91 goes to our organic farmer from the Borders – David Hamilton; Nether Pirn

To conclude such a wonderful weekend, the sun came out for our Scottish Limousin Club open day on the Sunday 11th August, creating a lovely environment for another barbeque lunch and a visit to our home farm housing our Limousin herd. Over at our home farm, guests were free to wander the herd, participating in our final stock judging competition of the weekend. After some stock judging, they were shuttled back to our Mains of Boquhan farm for further refreshments.

As a farming family of 85 years, we were truly honoured to host such wonderful open days at our new farm, and we are grateful to all who attended.
