It’s that time of year again, how are preparations going for the RHS?
Preparations for the Royal Highland Show are going well. We start preparing our bulls around six months before and enter them into local shows to ensure they are prepared for the big weekend. We have had some great results with our younger bulls, so fingers crossed for the main event!
Do you remember your first visit to the RHS?
Yes, my first show was in Aberdeen when I was about 12 years old. Back then, the Royal Highland Show would travel to different locations around Scotland and Aberdeen was considered far away so it was quite exciting for me! It was great to see all of the livestock and gave me inspiration to one day enter my own.
What’s the biggest benefit attending the RHS affords the company?
The Royal Highland Show is like a shop window for farmers to see the bulls. It allows you to showcase the quality of your livestock and help raise your profile. Not a lot of people can make it out to the farm so if they see your bulls at the show, they will remember you for future business!
Your Limousin, Michael, picked up a raft of awards last year – high hopes for a repeat performance this year?
We have put a lot of effort in preparing for the Royal Highland Show this year so fingers crossed for a great result!
Reading your recent ‘Letter to my younger self’ article; getting up at 1.30am every morning sounds tough. Is there ever any getting used to that?
I’m not sure if I could manage such an early start now but I definitely got used to it at the time. The only time I struggled was when I had been out the night before!
