Graham’s The Family Dairy acquires Glenfield Dairy in Fife from First Milk

Graham’s The Family Dairy today (Wednesday 25 November) confirms that it has acquired the Glenfield Dairy in Fife from First Milk.  This deal is part of Graham’s wider growth strategy, which sees them expanding their product range, exploring new product development and supporting the dairy industry across Scotland.

The Glenfield site produces cottage cheese, quark and sour cream, which will continue to be produced when Graham’s take over the business on 2 December.

Graham’s The Family Dairy, which has this week been named number one Scottish dairy brand in Scotland*, produces a wide range of dairy products including milk, block and spreadable butter, cream, cheddar cheese, and has recently launched low fat yogurt and luxury ice-cream ranges.  The family business are longstanding advocates of the health benefits of dairy and are delighted to be expanding their offering with additional healthy options in the form of cottage cheese and quark.

Robert Graham, Managing Director of Graham’s The Family Dairy, commented: “This is an exciting acquisition for us as it allows us to extend our product range for customers and consumers even further, with the addition of cottage cheese and quark.  In addition, this deal presents great potential to explore further new product development going forward.

“Our core values run through the very heart of our business – family, farming and high quality products that taste great.  We plan to bring these principles to Glenfield as they become part of the Graham’s family.  We’re delighted to be expanding the business on home turf and will continue to be mindful of future growth opportunities.”

Mike Gallacher, Chief Executive of First Milk said: “The sale of Glenfield Dairy follows a full strategic review by the Board over the summer. It will allow us to focus even more closely on our core businesses in hard cheese and liquid brokering. This is already starting to drive improvement with the business moving into a positive operating profit at mid-year, consistent with the phasing of our turnaround plan. We are confident that this focus will deliver improved milk prices and a more sustainable business model for our farmer shareholders. Today’s announcement is also a good deal for our Glenfield employees, our customers and consumers. Glenfield fits well with Graham’s other well-established dairy operations and the sale protects employment at the site and hence the broader Scottish dairy sector.”

More than half the population in Scotland buys Graham’s products.*  From their family farm in the heart of Scotland, the award-winning business has grown through three generations of dairy farmers to become one of Scotland’s greatest food and drink successes, since setting up in Bridge of Allan in 1939. With a steadfast commitment to the very best quality produce, they constantly strive to innovate.
